Our Experience in the Athens Acropolis Open Competition
Representing Team GB
Last weekend, our Sanda Kickboxing Academy team took part in the March Acropolis Open in Athens, Greece, and it was a great experience for our athletes.
For both of our fighters, this marked their first time competing at this level. While we didn’t come away with the wins this time, the results don’t tell the full story. Both athletes put in an incredible amount of work leading up to the competition, pushing themselves in training and showing real commitment to their development.

Each fight was closely contested, and more importantly, both fighters took huge steps forward. This was a clear step up in competition, and experiences like this are exactly what help shape and build stronger, smarter athletes.
Right now, they’re at an important stage in their journey, learning how to compete, rather than focusing purely on winning. At this stage of their development , it’s about competing to learn. Every round, every exchange, and every fight is part of that process, and this weekend gave us plenty to take away and improve on.
Looking ahead, we’re already focused on the next challenge: the UK Nationals in July. This will also be both fighters’ first time stepping into full-contact competition, and we’re excited to see how they continue to grow and perform.
There’s still a lot of work to be done, but that’s part of the journey and we’re looking forward to it. More competitions, more international experience, and continued development are all on the horizon.
We’re proud of the effort, proud of the progress, and excited for what’s next.
